INTERVIEW with TOM DOWEN October 8, 1983 Zellick: This is Anna Zellick interviewing Tom Dowen. I am here in his living room with his wife, Grace. Their home is located at 5I7 East Washington. The reason for interviewing Mr. Dowen is, he was a long time automobile dealer. In addition to his business, he was interested in the civic affairs of Lewis-town including membership on the Lewistown School District No. One Board of Trustees for many years. Mr. Dowen when did you come to Lewistown? Dowen: I came to Lewistown August 26,1926. Zellick: Where did you come from? Dowen: I came from Chinook, Montana. Zellick: Have you lived here continuously in Lewistown since then? Dowen: Yes. Zellick: In other words, you have lived here over fifty years. Lewistown is familiar to you then as a place of business and as your home. What do you know about the Ford Garage that was your place of business for many years? Dowen: The building that the Ford Garage started in about 1916. The building was built by E. R. Roehl, who had the Ford Agency at that time. 50'X 90'at the west end of the building was built in 1916. 100'X 90' on the east side of the building was built in 1917. Zellick: Was that unit built by Mr. Roehl also? Dowen: Yes. Zellick: He then had that business for manv vears? Dowen: Yes, he did. Zellick: Did you buy that building from Mr. Roehl? Dowen: No, I didn't. I bought the building from the Metals Band and Trust Co.
