Description | In this interview, Lewistown resident, Elise DeMers discusses her memories and experiences as a student, and later as a teacher, in the Lewistown Public Schools. She also mentions local residents and customs, and general history of Lewistown. Interviewed by Anna Zellick in Lewistown, MT, on August 7, 1978, as part of a Lewistown Public Schools oral history project. Bio/History: Elise Tubb DeMers was born in 1906, the daughter of George and Elise Tubb. In 1918, the family moved to Seattle. While there, her mother died of influenza during the epidemic of 1918. They returned to Lewistown and Elise graduated from Fergus County High School in 1925. She practice taught school while still in high school, and then attended Eastern Montana Normal School. She taught for many years in the Lewistown Public Schools. Elise DeMers died August 26, 1990. |
