WRESTLERS AT FORSYTH
The Poplar Indians made a good showing at the Forsyth tournament on Dec. 17 & 18. "We had some good matches considering most of our team is freshmen and sophomores." "I think with some practice over the holidays, we can place a lot of people at Divisionals in February." "There were a lot of 1 & 2 point matches in our losses to other opponents." Dave Vondall finished 1st at 112 and Barry Reede finished 4th at 119. "I felt we should have had 2 more people in the 3 & 4th finals but you can't beat the referee and win." We had what we felt was some unfair refereeing from one individual that cost Russell Burshia 6c Bruce Bauer their matches." I have lodged an official protest with the tournament manager and hopefully it will be changed by divisionals."
The team was in 5th place going into the finals portion but we fell to 10th place since we only had 2 in the finals. Overall it was a very satisfying learning experience for all the wrestlers.
