The signup period ends March II, and will not be extended, according to Dave Bliss, chairman ot the Montana Agric ultural "stabilization and Conservation committee, "Producers may change their enrollment or withdraw up until March I I." Severe weather conditions may have caused some problems for farmers around the country. However, recurring storms or anv other problems will not i hange the signup deadline, he said. The PIK program is designed to bring supplies more in line with demand in order to improve the farm economy. It encourages farmers to reduce the I9S1 planted acreage of PIK < om modifies (wheat, corn and sorghum in Montana) beyond that required bv the previously announced acreage reduc tion and land diversion programs. In return for participating in the PIK, program, farmers will receive an amount of the commodity as pay rnent for reducing planted acreage. This will also reduce CCC stocks and the cost of storage. All farms with an established 1981 acreage base and yield for a PIK (ommoditv are eligible to paiti ipate in PIK, it they are part ipating in the a< reage redu< tion program.
