WRESTLERS BEAT THE WOLVES The Poplar Wrestling squad ended the season with 8 wins & 8 loses, as they defeated the Wolf Pt. Team 35-18, here Thurs . nite . Winning for Poplar were: Tom Nordwick Steve Schagunn Cary Youpee Greg Norgaard Paul Reddles Perry Morton Mark Fredrick This weekend the Indian Wrestlers travel to Miles City for the Divisional Tournament, leaving on Thurs. to participate on Friday and Saturday . Action begins 1:00 Friday. INDIANS SPLIT The Poplor Indians gained revenge from an early season defeat at the hands of the Glasgow Scotties on Friday only to turn around and be upset Saturday by the lowly Wolf Point Wolves. The split moved the Indians into a second place tie with Plentywood and Sidney, one game behind the league leading Scotties. In Friday's con test the Indians fell behind the Scotties 30 to 23 at half-time behind the 19 point first half performance of Dennis Gay. The second half was marked by the fine defensive play of Frank Goumeau and Albert Kirn. Poplar High School has received 162 Adult Reserve Tickets for the 1976 Eastern Class A Divisional Basketball Tournament in Wolf Point, Feb. 26-27-28. According to Ronald Stegman, High School Principal, the ticket allotment represents less than half the number sold to Poplar fans last year. Additional SIO.OO leserve tickets have been requested but tournament officials have stated that no more will be forwarded until after Feb. 16 when unsold tickets from other conference schools have been returned. Each conference school leceived the alloted 162 tickets. The limited number of tickets will be sold in the High School office First to the parents of Varsity Basketball Players and Varsity Cheerleader Parents on Tuesday, Feb. 10th between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. All remaining tickets will be sold on a first come, first serve basis to Adult Athletic Season Ticket1 Holders be-ginning at 8:30 a.m., Wed., Feb. 12th. Other adults desiring tickets should contact the high school (768-3410) and have their names placed on a waiting list for the additional tickets to be available after Feb. 16th. The 105 student tourney tickets ($5 .00) will be sold during regular school hours beginning regul Feb. 10th. The Roosevelt County Bicentennial Committee met in Wolf Point at noon Monday to discuss the history book . Data discussed: Book to be 8 I 2 X tl . Hard cover with gold lettering. Approximately 900 pages. Printing to be done by Great Fa Ms Tribune . Ciders for book taken anytime. Price - $22.50 on pre-sale and S27.50 after books arrive. All material must be typed and to the Printers in Great Falls by March I. Any family that homesteaded here~-or had relatives settling here prior to 1927 is eligible to write for this book . This was the end of the Homestead Act. Please don't wait for a personal invitation. The comm ittee really wants to include all stories of early settlers in the area� those now living or have lived in Roosevelt County and those living or have lived near adjacent county boundaries. Glasgow played host to the 1976 District Speech & Drama Meet on January 31 . Over 20 towns were in attendance and competition was keen. The first 5 place finishers in each event {six in debate) earn a trip a trip to the state speech meet in Malta on Feb. 60-7. Poplar's team was full, no vacancies, a rather rare occurrence for any town. We brought home the third place trophy, with Miles City taking second and Dawson County of Glendlve was first. Standings are maintained separately for Class A schools and Class B-C schools, however, our third place finish in the class A rank was also good for third place overall . We were 7 points ahead of the B-C sweepstakes winner, Medicine Lake. Karen Holen's ratings in finals were 2,3 and 8. The 8 rating was grossly inconsistent with the other two, Had it been even a 6, Karen would have placed. 3. Dennis and Mark beat the debate team that placed third in state last year. 4. Kris Moe actually tied for first place, but finished second due to a tie-breaking method. 5. Of the elaht finalists in Oral Interpretation, all had a total of 3,4 .5 or 6 after the preliminary rounds. Jamie had 7 points which is usually more than adequate for making finals. 6. Paula received excellent ratings in the preliminary round and went into finals in a three way tie for second place . The Poplar forensics team finished the regular season, they, never having placed lower than third place in any tournament. Seven participants qualified for the state meet in Molta. We extend thanks to the many loyal supporters who have helped and encouraged us during the season. A speech banquet will be held Feb. 12 for students who have participated in speech this year and their parents. Time of the banquet is 6 p.m. in the Multipurpose room.
