Interview with Ralph Stucky. (1 st
)
I'm Anna Zellick. Today is July 15, 1985. I am here at my house at 721
West Spring Street, Lewistown, Montana. I have as my guest Mr. Ralph Stucky,
more formerly known as H. Ralph Stucky who came to Fergus County as a
young county extension agent in 1935. He stayed here until 1942. This interview
is requested by the Fergus Electric Cooperative; namely, Richard Peck, the
manager, and the Board of Directors who are looking forward to the fiftieth year
of their wonderful Cooperative in 1988. In view of the vital role that Mr. Stucky
has played in its organization and establishment, he has been asked to give us
some information of his experiences that do not or are not necessarily contained
either in his annual reports or in the minutes of the Fergus Electric Cooperative.
Mr. Stucky, it's great to have you here. You have been nice enough to stop here
in Lewistown en route from Las Cruces, New Mexico, your home. I understand
that you are headed for Stanford. Is that right?
STUCKY: Stanford tomorrow and then to Bozeman at the end of the week for a
family reunion.
ZELLlCK: So although you left Montana, you really haven't severed your
connections entirely.
STUCKY: OH, NO! We have a lot of family in Bozeman and in Canada so we
come up here quite often.
ZELLlCK: Well, good. Tell me, when you came here to Fergus County as the
extension agent back in 1935, how many positions did you have behind you at
the time? Or were you just fresh out of college?
STUCKY: Following my graduation form the University of Idaho in 1927, I
became vocational agricultural teacher at Filer, Idaho in a little rural
