Killed, California
Rev. Wm. Ames was killed in an
automobile accident when a fugitive from justice fleeing from policemen in a 120 mph chase drove
his car broadside into a car being
driven by Ames. The tragedy occurred, in southeast Los Angeles.
The driver of the runaway car,
Moses Shepherd Jr., 28, was booked on suspicion of manslaughter,
felony hit and run, reckless driving, failure to stop for a traffic
signal, violation of the basic speed
law, operating a motor vehicle
without drivers license, driving under the influence of drugs and
possession of marijuana, heroin
and dangerous drugs.
Rev. Ames was the son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Ames Sr.
who resided in Lothair for many
years before moving to Salem, Ore.
In spring of 1941 Bill came to
Montana to visit his sister and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Thielman, and went to work for Pete
Smith during the summer months.
He attended Chester High School
in the fall, for a few months, then
returned to Oregon to continue his
schooling.
He later joined the Marines,
met and married Judy Heppner.
Upon completion of duty in the
service, Bill decided to study for
the ministry. He moved his family to Arkansas so he could at-
. tend a Baptist seminary. Five
J years later he finished school and
pastored a church or two while
doing so.
Survivors besides the widow are
daugthers Mrs. Kenneth (Cindy)
Lancaster, Tulare, Cal., Terri, at
home, and son Timothy, also at
home. Another son, Larry, preceeded him in death in 1969. He is also survived by sisters Mrs. Harold
(Mina) Thielman, Chester; Phyllis
Wakefield, Portland, Ore.; brothers, Earl Kalispell, Claude and Jim
of Portland. Two sisters and a
| brother preceeded him in death
