Charles Buntin was born Sep 10, 1877 in Benton, Illinois. He died Jan 9, 1958 in Lewistown. He received a degree from LaSalle University in Chicago. In February of 1904 he was commissioned as a teacher by the Department of the Interior Bureau of Indian service and taught at Northern Cheyenne and Sioux schools in Montana. He made a study of Indian ways and folk-lore and his rapport with the Indians was excellent. After he married Margaret, they moved to Lewistown in 1909 where he processed land claims for the General Land Office for homesteaders. He was admitted to the bar of Montana in 1909. He later worked with the Corps of Engineers condemning land for the Fort Peck Dam.
