Methodist Minister, farmer, and bee keeper, the Reverend John Lewis Guiler was born in Summerfield, Ohio on August 27, 1850. Married Lottie Vale Summers in Wheatville, Ohio on April 11, 1880. They came to Billings on Nov. 15, 1885. In December 13, 1885, John L. Gulier and Judge Goddard raised funds for the First Methodist Church with the cornerstone being laid on June 11, 1886 - See First Methodist Church, Billings Gazette, May 14, 1933. JL Guiler operated a Boarding house according to the 1901 Polk City Directory. Served as pastor for four years at Boulder, Montana and for two years at Butte.
