He was born September 1, 1855 in New York. He came to Billings with a government survey crew in 1882 (or 1884). In 1907 he was a rancher and sheep man who homesteaded on Duck Creek in 1908. By 1918 he was the Humane Officer at the courthouse and lived in town. He was a leader in state politics.
