Description |
Christian was a leading merchant, banker, philanthropist, politician (Mayor in 1899-1901) and civic leader. Married Laura Clark in August, 1893. State Senator in 1903. The Yegens traveled to Europe in 1910. They had four daughters and one son. Christian was accused of violating the state banking laws in June, 1924 - See Butte Court Refuses New Trial to Yegen, Billings Gazette, January 27, 1925. He was granted a new trail in July, 1925 and the verdict was reversed - See Yegens Win in High Court, Billings Gazette, May 1, 1926. He ran for Mayor again in 1931 and won a City Council seat in 1932. Christian died in Minneapolis on July 29, 1935 -See Christian Yegen Dies, Billings Gazette, July 30, 1935, page 1. Mrs. Christian Yegen died in 1952 - See Early Resident Dies in Phoenix, Mrs. Christian Yegen Was 81 at Her Death, Billings Gazette, November 14, 1952. Christian and Laura built a home at 208 South 35th Street, that is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. |
