The former Glacier National Park tour boat "St. Mary" was brought to Polson in the early 1950s, redesigned and named the "MS Flathead" and used for tourist cruises until burning in 1961, the day before tourist season opened. It was a sad day when skipper Stan Koss poled his ship into its final docking place at Koss Landing. Wind and waves finished the job in a few years. The site is where KwaTaqNuk Best Western Resort is now located.
