Polson's infamous wooden bridge with a "Y" approach at the city end was the state's longest bridge when it was built in 1910. It served until being replaced in 1928. The "Y" approach was the result of a squabble between merchants on the two streets nearest the river. Both groups wanted the bridge to connect to their streets. Eventually they compromised with the bridge connecting to both.
