Yellowstone River ten miles southeast of Livingston, Montana. Plate 78b. A dense stand of Douglas-fir, limber pine, and Rocky Mountain juniper now occupies near slope shown in original view. The grass cover on this slope has been largely eliminated by tree canopy closure. Camera was moved approximately 100 yards down slope to allow unobstructed view of distant slopes. Tree cover on distant slopes has increased dramatically.
